Where do you volunteer?
St. Johns, Omagh Baptist Sunday School, CSSM, Parkview residential care home, peer mentoring.
What inspired you to get involved?
My career. I hope to be a nurse and was advised to volunteer as it would help to towards University or job applications. I try to do as much volunteering as possible.
What does your volunteering involve?
Befriending people, listening to people, organising games and keeping up to date with any training that is needed.
What skills or qualities are required for your volunteering role?
Good interpersonal skills because you are working with people all the time. First Aid skills are required for St Johns. Qualities such as empathy, kindness and respect are very usefully when peer mentoring and working in the care home.
What do you enjoy most about volunteering and what has been your highlight?
Meeting new people and pushing myself to do more for the community. Iíve learnt loads about myself and areas I aspire to improve.
Why would you encourage others to become a Millennium Volunteer and what advice would you give them?
Itís a great achievement that anyone should be proud of. It also looks great on a CV.
