Age: 21
Sarah Glackin
What inspired you to get involved?
I began volunteering in 2007 and I am currently volunteering at Gateway where I usually volunteer fortnightly. I was inspired to get involved as I wanted to be part of the community; I wanted to develop my own personal skills and wanted to learn more for the future along with helping others.
What does your volunteering involve?
It involves socializing with the members whilst organizing and running activities and fundraising.
What skills or qualities are required for your volunteering role?
You need to have good communication, organizational and person orientated skills. I also believe that you need to be caring, respectful, approachable and loyal.
What do you enjoy most about volunteering and what has been your highlight?
I enjoy getting to know everyone as a volunteer and being able to support members of the group whilst helping enhance their lives. I thoroughly enjoyed going to the Halloween and Christmas parties also.
Why would you encourage others to become a Millennium Volunteer and what advice would you give them?
I would encourage volunteering as it helps develop your skills and enhances learning experiences. It is great just being involved in such a rewarding activity. I would advise people to get involved in as much as they can as one day it will become very useful.
