Where do you volunteer?
Oxfam Castle Street Belfast
What inspired you to get involved?
A friend volunteered in the Oxfam shop and I was interested to volunteer with them. It was great because the volunteering went towards my John Paul II Award.
What does your volunteering involve?
I was involved with various aspects of the shop such as sorting donations, cash handling, stocking shelves, pricing and customer service. It was a great experience in terms of learning skills for getting jobs.
What skills or qualities are required for your volunteering role?
It was important to have good customer service skills, be patient and have a smile!!
What do you enjoy most about volunteering and what has been your highlight?
I enjoy the mix of customers and staff itís a really friendly environment. My most memorable moment was meeting a stag group in the shop who were buying fancy dress costumes I will never forget that!
Why would you encourage others to become a Millennium Volunteer and what advice would you give them?
It's great to give your time up volunteering, but why not get something out of it for yourself? Thatís why Millennium Volunteers is great because you get rewarded for your hard work.
