Caitriona McCann
What inspired you to get involved?
Initially, my inspiration was developing my CV and getting into University. However when I got into it my inspiration for continuing was the amount of people I met and the feeling of helping in peoples lives felt incredible.
What does your volunteering involve?
The parish volunteering involves me cleaning the chapel and reading at mass. The youth club volunteering involves going to weekly two hour sessions, going on local trips and being a leader at residential's.
What skills or qualities are required for your volunteering role?
I find you have to be an honest, trustworthy and reliable person. This is important because the organisation is depending on you. Also you have to be patient and kind as youíre giving up your own free time to help others.
What do you enjoy most about volunteering and what has been your highlight?
I enjoyed making a difference to peoples lives and helping others. Volunteering in a youth club meant I could share my experience with young people and influence their lives.
Why would you encourage others to become a Millennium Volunteer and what advice would you give them?
Yes definitely! I would say just do it, itís so worth it and the peoples lives you change and the people you meet are just incredible.
