Name: Cathal McGivern
Age: 20
Cathal McGivern
Where do you volunteer?
Newry City FC and Evo Soccer School
What does your volunteering involve?
Designing coaching sessions and then delivering them to Newry City FCs under 8s. It involves effective communication and planning to ensure timing suits everyone. For Evo Soccer School, I help lay out the training sessions and I take ages 7-8 for their training, trying to enhance their football skills.
What do you enjoy most about volunteering and what has been your highlight?
Seeing everyone happy as training and matches brings satisfaction to both players and parents and it is always enjoyable. The highlight was easily presentation night when I organised trophies and medals to the players. This was a special moment for myself, the players and the parents.
Why would you encourage others to become a Millennium Volunteer and what advice would you give them?
Volunteering is good for your health as it has helped me socially and intellectually. Volunteering allows for great experiences which may be invaluable in years to come. I would advise to volunteer in something that will interest you and will inspire you to better yourself every single day.
