A diversity toolkit for the youth work sector
Youth practitioners have come together to produce a must have resource for including young people from different backgrounds in youth work. Access All Areas is a diversity toolkit for the youth work sector developed by Youthnet and the National Youth Council of Ireland. The resource was developed in partnership with over 25 practitioners and 15 voluntary organisations working with children and young people, North and South of the border.
Access all Areas is now available to help youth workers and other professionals include young people from hard to reach groups. To download a copy of the toolkit visit the Youthnet website or contact Youthnet 028 9033 1880 to obtain your free printed guide with CD-ROM included.
Access All Areas can be used by volunteers, staff, or management committees for self-assessment. It contains a series of interactive chapters that will enable a group or organisation to see the level of access they are providing to all young people, especially those from minority ethnic communities, young Travellers, lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender young people, young people with a disability, early school leavers, young people involved in the juvenile justice system, young parents and young people with mental health issues.
The toolkit can be used to help embed the Department of Education’s Community Relations, Equality and Diversity (CRED) policy and as a practical resource underpinning the Quality Assurance Framework.
Youthnet are offering support to organisations in how to use the toolkit effectively. For more information on this or to find out more about Access All Areas contact Ben Ewan on 028 9033 1880 / firstname.lastname@example.org
