The Youth in Action Programme is funded by the European Union. It aims to give young people valuable international experience for their personal and professional development through various activities, including volunteering.
As part of the programme, European Voluntary Service (EVS) offers young people the opportunity to volunteer abroad, primarily in Europe, for a period of 2 to 12 months. The programme is inclusive and is open to any young person aged from 18 to 30, legally resident in the UK. Applications are especially welcome from marginalised or disadvantaged young people. No formal qualifications are needed and volunteer expenses, including basic living costs, are normally paid. There are normally 3 deadlines per year: 1st February; 1st May and 1st October. Non-profit organisations can become involved by sending or hosting young people and are required to go through an accreditation process, managed by the UK National Agency for the YIA Programme (British Council).
